A Tombing Adventure

On the cruise we went to Greece, Turkey, and Egypt. In Greece we went to Olympia and Athens. In Olympia we saw where the very first Olympics were held and a destroyed temple of Zeus. In Athens we went to the Acropolis and saw where the Apostle Paul taught the people of Athens. We also saw the ruins of the Parthenon. The Parthenon was under construction it was really lame. Once in Turkey we went to Ephesus. We also saw how the Turkish people make their rugs. Then we went to Egypt.

In Egypt Jenna, Mom, Sam, and I went to Alexandria and Cairo. Once we docked in Alexandria we went and saw the library of Alexandria (which held 1 million books). It can hold 8.5 million books. The building was shaped really really weird. Then after that we went to a big palace for the king. We were not able to go inside because it was gated off. Finally it gets exciting...

If you would like to know more...

The Catacombs is where we went next (mummies' tombs). We went down a big set of spiraling stairs around and big well. At the bottom of the stairs we went down a small hall to a big circle room with a another round well in the middle. On the edges of the circle room were hallways leading of to other rooms. On the other side of the well we went down some steps and stepped onto some boards elevated by big blocks.

If you want to know what was down the steps...

At the bottom of the stairs there was a big decorated arch. Under the arch was a hallway that we walked through and saw were the King of Alexandria was buried. We went behind the kings room and saw some slots were people were buried. Then we walked back to the well and went to the right side of the well. Down some steps and a hallway we saw something that looked liked an altar. Then to the left of that there was a case that had some animal bones in it. On some of the walls we saw some drawings. They were really cool. On the left side of the well there was a banquet hall. And then we went back to the top. Then we got to go to Cairo.

If you would like to read about the Pyramids...

You'll have to read my next post on Cairo...

  1. Great adventure! I suppose the Egyptian catacombs are like the ones in Rome; that is, some people lived their whole lives in them--born there, lived there, died there. Very little of their life was lived in the daylight. The way you describe it--it is a real adventure.
